Air Filtration Systems & Air Flow Sensors
ECS designs LRU air filtration systems to reduce moisture and dirt ingression. Analysis has shown that LRU contamination often contains conductive materials. Contaminants are present in both moist/wet and dusty/dry conditions. For example, when an aircraft is airborne, condensation can form and mix with conductive material in the LRU causing intermittent shorts. As the plane lands, the moisture disappears and so does the problem. ECS air filtration products can help minimize "No Faults Found" and failures due to contamination.
Features
- Disposable filter cartridges have a high dust arrestor capability and
low air resistance
- Air filters are easily removed and installed during regular maintenance
checks
- There is no significant reduction in air flow
- Meets FAR Part 25.853 flammability requirements
- Complies with applicable operational shock, crash safety, and vibration
standards as specified in RTCA/DO-160 for airborne equipment
- Trays are available with air flow sensing capability
- Sensor output is a switch set normally open or closed
- ECS can customize the output (LED, audible alarm, etc.)

Benefits
- Reduces the physical contaminants entering the LRU, cooling air flow
space
- Provides maximum contaminant capturing capabilities
- Minimizes unnecessary LRU removals
- Increases mean time between failures (MTBF)
- Increases reliability
- Decreases overall maintenance costs
- Sensor detects typical failure modes: fan bearing failure, fan coil
overheat, fan power wire damage, blocked air inlet, clogged air filter
